The Tata Steel / Port Talbot Transition Board met on February 6, 2025. The Secretary of State for Wales, Rt Hon Jo Stevens MP, sought approval to announce £8.2 million for the South Wales Industrial Transition from Carbon Hub (SWITCH) project which will generate over 100 jobs and bring £87 million to the local economy. This is the first project to be funded as part of the regeneration of Port Talbot and involves the collaboration of several universities, industrial and public partners.
In addition, the fourth release of funds from the £80 million fund, which since July has supported Tata Steel workers and businesses, was presented. Mental health issues were also discussed and details were updated on Tata Steel’s decarbonization and the Department of Business and Trade’s steel strategy. It was announced that more details on mental health interventions will be shared at the next meeting in March.
The meeting was attended by key authorities and representatives, such as the Secretary of State for Wales and the CEO of Tata Steel UK.
