Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminum manufacturer has appointed its CEO, John Slaven, as vice president of the International Aluminium Institute. In this role, Slaven will lead global efforts to promote the sustainable transformation of the aluminum industry and highlight the important role of aluminum in the energy transition to a contemporary zero-carbon world.
The International Aluminum Institute (IAI), founded in 1972, is the only organization representing the world’s leading aluminum industry. Its mission is to increase awareness of the industry’s activities, advocate responsible production and highlight the considerable benefits of using aluminum in the development of greener technology. The IAI’s current membership includes the world’s leading producers of bauxite, alumina and aluminum. It also has the most extensive global data on the aluminum industry, with more than 40 years of analysis of production, consumption, energy use and environmental impact.
John Slaven, CEO of Vedanta Aluminum, said he enthusiastically accepted the responsibility of this vice-presidency. Aluminum has already proven to be essential in the global transition to a Net Zero future. Through various positions in leading companies within these sectors, he has contributed to shaping the overall domain of transformative forms. Currently, Slaven leads all aspects of Vedanta Aluminum’s growth strategy as CEO and advocates the integration of sustainable practices. Under his leadership, Vedanta Aluminum has emerged as the world’s most sustainable aluminum company, according to the S&P 2023 Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
