SANTOS’ MAGIC THAT TURNS AN EMPTY CAN INTO A BEAUTIFUL ORNAMENT FOR THE HOME
With scissors and pliers in hand and a lot of creativity, Santos manages to make magic and manages to create beautiful flowers and ornaments simply using empty cans with fine finishes. At 71 years old, Santos Mario de Jesús Morán has managed to turn any kind of canned deposit into beautiful home decorations.
His routine is the same every day. Originally from San Sebastian Salitrillo, but a resident of the city of Santa Ana for 20 years, every day he goes to the sidewalk of the local Casa Del Niño Health Unit with a bag of cans that he turns into whatever object he decides to create at that moment and earn money for his expenses.
The skill in his hands supported by his infectious creativity encourages him to take his scissors and pliers to design miniature poinsettias, classic cars, motorcycles, kitchens, cantharts and scales in less than 15 minutes and sells three for $1.
The veteran craftsman explained that the ability to transform empty cans into eye-catching ornaments was discovered by a friend who encouraged him to explore the hitherto unknown skill. “I didn’t know it was so easy to make beautiful ornaments until one day a friend who lived in Candelaria de la Frontera began to explain to me. From there I became more curious and started practicing and taking advice from other friends on how to improve and make other things with the empty cans that they themselves gave me,” Santos concluded.
