THE FINALISTS OF THE TUNA AWARDS 2021 ARE ALREADY KNOWN
The finalists of this year’s TunaAwards are already known. These biennial awards, a benchmark for the international tuna industry, stand out in the categories of Sustainability and Transition 4.0. ANFACO-CECOPESCA in collaboration with the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, organizes the first edition of the TUNA AWARDS, a biennial award for innovations in the international tuna industry.
The Tuna Awards aim to highlight the industry’s efforts in digitisation and sustainability and to reward innovative companies and initiatives. In the first edition, more than 25 nominations from 12 countries have been obtained for the categories of Sustainability and Transition 4.0 which endorses the wide impact achieved with an initiative that aims to become an essential event for the tuna sector worldwide.
An independent jury formed by representatives of the: Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food; ANFACO-CECOPESCA; Sustainable Fisheries Partnership; Datalife; ICSEM and Protagonistas del Progreso; has been in charge of technically analyzing and deliberating on all the candidacies, choosing 3 finalists for each category, which have been:
In the category of sustainability have been chosen Open Tuna Initiative – Aliança do Atlântico para o Atum sustentável (Brazil), Hopper Project – Bolton Food (Italy), Sustuntech – Marine Instruments (Spain), while in the section of Transition 4.0, Tuna Factory digital Twin – Soltec Ingenieros (Spain), Traceability system of the tuna production chain – Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará, FIEC (Brazil) , Smart tunipack – HERMASA Canning technology (Spain) have been other finalists.
The jury has expressed the high level of the proposals submitted, surprising the global momentum that the tuna chain has, with special focus on the Spanish industry for its exemplary leadership. The winner of each category will be announced during the awards ceremony, which will take place on Monday 13th September at 18:00 hours at the Afundación headquarters in Vigo, coinciding with the celebration of the 10th World Tuna Conference.
One project per category will be awarded. The winners will receive worldwide recognition, as well as publicity and support from the organizers. In addition, both projects will receive an exclusive trophy.
