Donald Trump announced that he will impose 200% tariffs on European alcoholic products, such as wine and champagne, if the EU does not remove its countermeasures to the US tariffs. Trump demanded that the EU remove the 50% tariff on US whiskey, after the bloc reactivated measures against 25% tariffs applied by the US on steel and aluminum.
As of April 1, the EU will reintroduce tariffs on products such as bourbon, ships and motorcycles, and will add new countermeasures in mid-April. In total, these actions will affect U.S. exports by €26 billion, matching the impact of the U.S. tariffs.
