thyssenkrupp Rasselstein launches consumer platform weissblech-kommt-weiter.de
For the first time, thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH, the only German tinplate manufacturer, is specifically addressing consumers to inform them about the recyclability and sustainability of tinplate. Today was launched the website www.weissblech-kommt-weiter.de, created for this purpose. The target group is German-speaking consumers.
“Unfortunately, consumer awareness of the excellent recycling properties of tinplate is still too low. This is demonstrated by a representative YouGov survey, which we commissioned in advance in Germany. For example, consumers believe that the recycling rate of tinplate is only 55%. The actual figure of 91% is considerably higher,” explains Carmen Tschage, Head of Communication and Market Development at thyssenkrupp Rasselstein. “A few years ago, public interest in sustainability issues was very limited. But that has changed since Greta Thunberg and Fridays for Future came on the scene. Today, consumers understand that the growing mountains of plastic trash and floating plastic stains in the oceans are a real threat to the environment and ultimately to us humans, and they want to change their behavior.”
The survey also revealed that something has already changed in terms of thinking. It showed that, faced with a choice of two identical products at identical prices, 62% of consumers would prefer a tin pack, and only 14% would opt for a plastic pack. Media coverage of the problem of plastic waste in the world’s oceans has even led 67% of consumers to state that they want to buy fewer or no products in plastic packaging.
The website addresses the sustainability and excellent recycling properties of tinplate.
“There has never been a better time to motivate consumers to favour tinplate,” stresses Tschage. “To show how tinplate is the best option, we have created a modern and attractive website that can be accessed at www.weissblech-kommt-weiter.de. We deliberately address users informally so as not to create any reservations in the first place.”
The articles on the platform highlight the ability of tinplate to be recycled several times, the closed material cycle of steel, and explain how tinplate is produced. The topic of “green and climate-neutral steel”, which is currently attracting a great deal of public interest, is also being presented. In addition to the usual articles, there will also be regular posts on our blog. “We hope to start a positive debate on the sustainability of tinplate in German-speaking countries and that many consumers will take advantage of the offer to learn about the benefits and recyclability of tinplate packaging,” says Tschage.
