Novelis Aluminum (Zhenjiang) Co., Ltd. achieved ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification for its rolling mill facilities to be placed in Jingkou Industrial Zone, Jiangsu Province, China.

The plant produces structural plate products that will serve aerospace as well as commercial plate applications. In addition, this is Novelis’ second facility in China to receive Performance Standard Certification and its 19th certified facility worldwide.

The ASI certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standards initiative for the aluminum value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria to address sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain. It establishes 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, indigenous peoples’ rights and greenhouse gas emissions.

Fiona Solomon, ASI’s executive director, noted in this regard that “We sincerely congratulate Novelis for achieving Performance Standard Certification at its Zhenjiang rolling facility. Aerospace aluminum applications must meet stringent operational performance requirements for strength, ductility, damage and fatigue tolerance, among others. This ASI Performance Standard certification demonstrates that the company is also addressing the increasing global focus on the environmental, social and governance performance of aluminum production processes and operations.”

James Liu, general manager of Novelis China added that. “we are delighted that Novelis’ Zhenjiang plant is now certified to meet ASI’s environmental, social and governance standards. Driven by our purpose of Shaping a Sustainable World Together, we are continuously dedicated to being the most trusted partner for our customers and advancing the use of sustainable, low-carbon aluminum solutions to accelerate the transition to a circular economy in partnership with various stakeholders in China.”
