Lindum Packaging Company has celebrated its first anniversary following the launch of the UK’s first mobile pallet stability testing laboratory. In this way, the facility has revolutionized the way in which UK companies reduce plastic and CO2 by optimizing pallet wrapping and improving transport stability.
In the past 12 months, the Grimsby-based company claims to have completed 322 separate trials with customers across the UK. This has helped eliminate the movement of goods during transit and has reduced customers’ use of plastic pallets by an average of 39%, saving thousands of tons of material.
As the company’s managing director Bernard Sellars notes, “in addition to reducing packaging costs, movement has been reduced in transport issues, leading to goods being damaged and often cancelled. This has saved our customers a lot of time and money, as products now reach customers safely and in good condition.”
In this regard Sellars adds that “with the introduction of the plastic packaging tax, the laboratory will continue to play a vital role in helping companies reduce their liability for the tax by optimizing the use of pallet wrap.”
Such a lab is the first real-time pallet stability testing facility a year ago, companies had to perform inconclusive transit tests, often at test facilities in Europe, at a cost of close to €8,000 per test.
