Lola Barcia and Marinela Forcadell, known as Las Fotolateras, have been traveling the world for 17 years with their project Canned Cities, capturing images with cameras made from tin cans. They practice pinhole photography, an artisanal technique without lens or viewfinder that requires improvised darkrooms, photosensitive paper, and long exposures.

They have photographed more than 80 cities, from Tokyo to New York, seeking the “urban essence” and unique effects such as silky water or empty streets during rush hour. They defend this slow and reflective technique as a counterweight to the accelerated pace of digital photography.

Lola and Marinela offer workshops throughout Spain and also show their experience of cooking images “and returning to the origin of photographic art: creating with calm, patience, and passion”.
