A refillable and propellant-free deodorant wins WorldStar 2024 for its sustainable approach
The World Packaging Organisation (WPO) has awarded an innovative collaboration between TUBEX and Hungarian startup Respray in the sustainability category of the prestigious WorldStar awards.
The joint proposal has been recognized for its comprehensive approach to sustainability in aerosol packaging. TUBEX, specialized in aluminum packaging manufacturing, provides Respray with an ultra-lightweight can made from its patented Neucan 3.1 alloy, which contains post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminum and uses natural inks in its decoration.
Respray’s innovation focuses on extending the lifespan of these containers through a refill system at the point of sale, eliminating the use of propellant gases such as LPG. Instead, it uses compressed air to dispense the product, allowing the container to be refilled up to five times with the deodorant chosen by the consumer.
To make this solution viable, Respray developed a dispensing machine capable of offering up to three types of deodorant, promoting a more circular and responsible consumption model.
The WorldStar awards were presented on May 30 in Milan. Organized by the WPO, these awards are considered the most important globally in the packaging field. Only products that have already been recognized with previous national or regional awards can be submitted.
