The City Council of Molina de Segura maintains its commitment to the National Technology Centre for Food and Canning and reiterates its proposal to transfer municipal land for its new location and expansion. This was stated recently, the mayor of Molina de Segura, Eliseo García Cantó, during the visit to the facilities of the National Technological Center of the Canning and Food (CTNC), where he held a meeting on the expansion and possible transfer of these facilities with the president of the CTNC, José García Gómez, and the director of the center, Pablo Flores Ruiz.
At the meeting, the mayor showed, once again, the unconditional support of the Consistory molinense to the expansion of the Technology Center, which would involve, in the case of being carried out, the transfer of the current headquarters to a new one in the area of Mirador de Agridulce, on municipal land that the City Council makes available.
According to García, the proposed plot has an ideal location for the intended use, improving communications and enhancing the research pole that is the Espinardo complex and the Campus of the University of Murcia. “It also makes future expansions of the facilities possible,” he adds.
The location of this plot would be about 400 meters from the Espinardo Campus, in the vicinity of its north entrance. In addition, it borders directly on the 400,000 m2 that this City Council ceded to the University of Murcia to extend the Espinardo Campus towards Molina, creating the future Campus of Molina de Segura. The construction of the CTNC headquarters in Molina de Segura is not a casual installation, but was one of the commitments of the then regional government after the canning crisis of 1994.
In fact, since 2018 the City Council has worked, ex officio, for the expansion of the center, making available to the entity a municipal plot of equipment in that area, with an area of 25,456 m2, of which about 7,000 m2 can be ceded.
The CTNC is a building constructed in 1996 and occupies a plot of 4,250 m2, with no possibility of extension, sharing a block with a CEIP Ntra. Mrs. Fatima. The centre occupies a built area of approximately 2,600 m2, with 1,130 m2 of office space and 1,470 m2 of warehouse space.
