The British Re:Water Spring Water is the first spring water brand on the market to use 100% recycled aluminum containers. The Re:Water Spring Water brand comes in a recyclable, refillable aluminum bottle that is said to be the first on the market to use 100% PCR.
Back in May 2021, UK brand owner Sauce Connections introduced Re:Water, a refillable bottled spring water product from Berrington Water in Herefordshire, UK. This spring water was packaged in a 100% PCR aluminum bottle from Tecnocap, which according to the supplier is a world first for spring water. In development for three years by Sauce and Berrington, the brand was created to provide consumers with a new and more environmentally friendly way to consume bottled water.
Among its many accolades it has won Metal Pack of the Year at the UK Packaging Awards and was described by the judges as “a game changer in the bottled water market, as well as one of the most disruptive and innovative products available”. Among its advantages are its low carbon footprint and its ability to be refilled and reused. In addition, it features a 28 mm aluminum closure that can also be easily recycled throughout the UK, without the need for separation.
Elio Lamberti, general manager of Tecnocap’s Aerosols and Bottles Division, explains that the challenge in the past to create a 100% PCR aluminum bottle was that there was not an adequate supply of the material. “To realize this packaging solution, we needed a specific supply chain dedicated exclusively to PCR aluminum that was always available. Through a partnership we formed two years ago with some of our main European aluminum suppliers, we were among the first in Europe to have this PCR aluminum available for our entire product range,” he explains.
The PURE bottle generates 50% less CO2 emissions than virgin aluminum bottles; it is robust, lightweight, its aluminum cap allows for easy resealing and recycling; and once the consumer has finished the product, it is easy to recycle.
