Metal closures for food packaging are now manufactured with BASF’s Hexamoll biomass-balanced plasticizer. All this is the result of the collaboration between Tecnocap and BASF that will make the metal closures for food packaging of the former to be manufactured with this balanced plasticizer without phthalates and biomass.
In this way, BASF’s phthalate-free plasticizer, based on renewable raw materials, contributes to saving fossil resources and carbon emissions. In addition, Tecnocap adds that it will use BASF’s plasticizer to seal the seals inside its metal closures, which ensures that the containers are leak-proof, protects the product from contaminants and preserves the quality of the product throughout its shelf life.
Michelangelo Morlicchio, CEO and president of Tecnocap Group further details that “working together with customers and suppliers like BASF is a strategic approach for us” and stresses that “it will reduce their impact in line with our Sustainability Action Plan, which aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by 2030”.
For his part, Wolfgang Bien, vice president of industrial petrochemicals for Europe at BASF, also states that “we share Tecnocap’s commitment to sustainability and are currently implementing numerous measures to achieve our goal of becoming climate neutral by 2050.”
Tecnocap’s metal closures are used by some of the largest consumer brands in food, baby food and beverage packaging around the world. Last year, Tecnocap introduced a portfolio of aluminum cans and aluminum aerosol bottles made from 100% recycled aluminum , along with a wide range of metal closures.
Also in September, BASF unveiled its IrgaCycle additive solutions for recyclers, blenders and converters, which aim to increase the amount of recycled content in end-use applications such as packaging.
