Tata Steel has signed a multimillion-pound agreement with Andritz AG to build a state-of-the-art acid recovery plant at its new pickling line. The facility will recycle the used hydrochloric acid in the pickling of hot-rolled steel, reducing the need for acid imports and exports.

According to the company, the plant will improve process stability, reduce costs, and decrease environmental impact, by reducing the number of acid trucks from about 25 per week to just two or three per month.

Construction will begin in January 2027, with commissioning scheduled for the end of that year.
