Tata Steel has contracted three construction companies from South Wales to support the construction of the £1.25 billion green steel manufacturing project in Port Talbot.

Over 300 skilled jobs in the local supply chain will be involved in the new contracts signed with different companies in the area.

The Minister of Industry, Sarah Jones, commented that the news is a great boost for the communities of South Wales, providing highly skilled opportunities for local people, and will help the steel industry in Wales to drive growth and “attract more investment as part of our Change Plan.”

The Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens, added: “We have backed Tata Steel with £500 million to safeguard the steel industry in Wales and I am pleased that the company is investing in the local supply chain, securing hundreds of jobs and fostering economic growth.”

Lloyd Bryant, Director of Infrastructure and Services at Tata Steel, said that they aim to secure the future of sustainable steel manufacturing in the area, ensuring jobs and guaranteeing the long-term viability of the steel industry in Wales for future generations.
