The metallurgical giant signed an agreement with a Bangalore-based startup for drone-based mining solutions for effective mine management. The main objective of the agreement is to jointly develop and deliver sustainable, end-to-end integrated solutions that focus on efficiency, safety and productivity in open-pit mining operations.

Tata Steel will also work closely with AUS to provide unique drone-based solutions, including mine analysis and geotechnical mapping, to Tata Steel group companies at mining locations in India.

Commenting on the partnership, D B Sundara Ramam, vice president, raw materials, Tata Steel, said, “Digitization and other technology enabled by the drone survey will help gather impactful and actionable information. We see huge potential in redefining core mining processes, such as exploration and mine planning, using drone data and appropriate analytics.”

Among the many advantages, these mining solutions are much more economical, require less exploration footprint, and improve production, efficiency and site safety. The multinational confirmed that it aims to take advantage of opportunities arising from the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat Program and regulatory changes to meet captive feedstock requirements beyond 2030 by building a sustainable mining business.

For his part Vipul Singh, founder and CEO of Aarav Unmanned Systems, noted that “Tata Steel’s trust in us to create end-to-end solutions together with them, for the domestic and global mining industry, directly reflects the vision we share and the openness of a giant like Tata Steel to partner with a startup to derive the most effective solution.”
