TESTS CONFIRM THE SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE OF THE ORBIS 40 x 48 P3 REUTIL PALLET 40 x 48 P3
New reusable plastic pallet offers more than 25 times the lifespan of traditional wooden pallets
ORBIS® Corporation, an international leader in reusable packaging, announces that its 40″ x 48″ P3 reusable pallet has completed 280 cycles through FasTrack life cycle analysis, giving the P3 more than 25 times the life of a standard 40″ x 48″ white wood pallet. The P3 pallet is a hygienic, durable, lightweight and stackable packaging solution that integrates seamlessly with manual and automated material handling equipment.

Conducted by Virginia Tech’s Center for Packaging and Unit Load Design, the FasTrack life cycle analysis uses a multi-step handling sequence to simulate rough handling of palletized unit loads. In the tests, the P3 plastic pallet completed the sequence for 280 cycles without failure, while the wooden pallet only failed in 11 cycles. This demonstrated that P3 is an economical, environmental and efficient alternative to wooden pallets that will better help companies achieve their operational goals and desired return on investment.

ORBIS offers a wide range of pallets, each of which meets specific performance criteria in the supply chain. The 40 x 48 P3 pallet is the latest offering and is ideal for moving product loads in the retail supply chain.
“Historically, we’ve seen companies choose one type of pallet and make it work. As we scale up to meet consumer demands, this is no longer the case,” says Alison Zitzke, product manager, ORBIS Corporation. “Choosing the right pallet for your application is imperative, which is why it was so important for us to bring the P3 pallet to market to improve sustainable handling in primary packaging, food and beverage, and consumer packaged goods (CPG) applications. We are very proud of its performance in testing and look forward to seeing how operations implement this solution.”

The P3 pallet is designed with a low profile of 5.1 inches in height, easily double stacks in racking systems and helps maximize transportation efficiency. Optional steel reinforcements and grommets add strength and stability, helping to reduce load shifting and product damage. Molded handles facilitate manual handling, while the plastic passage design reduces contaminating spaces and facilitates cleaning. The quadruple entry for forklift trucks and the bottom with rails allow access from any position and facilitate integration with automated handling systems. The P3 pallet can be manufactured with recycled content and fully recycled at the end of its useful life.

“In addition to making business sense, incorporating reusable plastic pallets can help companies meet their sustainability goals,” says Zitzke. “And because P3 is fully recyclable, it is eligible for the Recycle with ORBIS program, where companies can receive a credit for their future packaging purchases. It’s a win-win in the supply chain.”
