Stolle Machinery is building a new facility in Burnley, UK, which is located in Lancashire, about 34 kilometers north of Manchester.
The new 158,000-square-foot facility is being built to consolidate Stolle’s manufacturing operations in Altham, UK, which are currently housed in five separate buildings. Operations in Carlisle, UK will not be affected. Stolle is investing £20 million (approximately $25 million) to equip the custom-built building.
Stolle’s Burnley operations will produce the company’s Optimus can washers, as well as its E-NCKR neck-forming systems. The building will include space for machine assembly, parts machining and warehousing, field service, die and machine rebuilding, engineering and administration.
Stolle commercial director Mike Raderchak said, “While other suppliers to the can industry are cutting back, Stolle is investing to better serve our customers in the future. The new facility in Burnley includes the latest sustainability features and will enable our operations there to be more efficient.”
Richard Mercer, Stolle’s operations director at Altham, commented, “We are delighted to consolidate our operations at this impressive facility in Burnley, which is exactly what we have been looking for. Many of our employees are based in Burnley and the surrounding areas, so it was vital that we remained close to our current home in Altham. The new facility at Frontier Park is ideally located just off the M65, so it made perfect sense.” Mercer said Stolle intends to bring more than 200 jobs to the new facility in Burnley, including 27 apprenticeships.
Lukman Patel, chief executive of Burnley Council, added: “It is fantastic news that such an impressive global brand as Stolle has chosen Burnley for such a significant strategic base, with Burnley joining Stolle locations such as Colorado and São Paulo.”
Stolle plans to move its operations from Altham to the new facility in Burnley later this year.
