Steel, recognized as a permanent material whose properties are not altered after successive recycling processes, has positioned itself at the center of the European debate on sustainability and circular economy.

On July 23, the European Economic and Social Committee hosted a session focused on promoting the value of permanent materials within the environmental policies of the European Union. The conference was attended by Andrea Mone (speaker), Michal Pinter (co-speaker) and Fabrice Pinard representing the steel sector.

Experts stressed that, in order to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, it will be essential to preserve the value of resources for longer within the economy. In this context, materials such as steel—infinitely recyclable without loss of quality—can play a fundamental role in the sustainable management of resources.

The recommendations drawn from the debate will contribute to the development of the European Commission’s future New Circular Economy Act. This legislative framework seeks to strengthen the competitiveness, innovation and strategic autonomy of the community bloc.
