In 2023, German manufacturers managed to maintain a steady delivery of products. A total of 796 million aluminum tubes and 575 million aluminum aerosol cans were shipped to the country. Compared to the previous year, this represents an increase of 4% for aluminum tubes and a slight increase of 0.5% for aerosol cans. Although a decline was observed in the second half of the year, delivery volumes in the first half were positive.

According to Clemens Behrenbruch, president of the tube, can and extruded parts division of Aluminium Deutschland (AD), “the strong demand for aluminum tubing, especially in the pharmaceutical sector, underscores the crucial role of our products in meeting essential packaging requirements. The industry’s performance in 2023 reflects our resilience and adaptability to meet challenging market conditions.”

This achievement reflects the resilience and efficiency of the German manufacturing industry, despite economic and logistical challenges. Despite these improvements, energy prices remain high, and future availability is uncertain. In addition, regulatory issues and sustainability requirements impose bureaucratic burdens on companies.
The shortage of skilled labor remains one of the most serious challenges. New employees require time to adapt to the job, and finding suitable candidates is an arduous task. In addition, rising sickness rates aggravate the situation.

In this context, politicians have a crucial role to play. They must establish an economic policy framework that provides companies with planning security. The industry emphasizes the importance of proactive policy measures to ensure competitiveness.

Although the industry remains cautiously optimistic for 2024, uncertainties around energy prices, skilled labor shortages and regulatory challenges require proactive management. “We are committed to innovation, sustainability and meeting changing consumer demands,” Behrenbruch said.
