Special rings for cans to protect marine wildlife: biodegradable and edible
There are special rings for cans that promise to help protect animals, as they are completely biodegradable and can be eaten. Florida-based craft beer company Saltwater Brewery has taken a big step towards sustainability with its new collection of beers called ‘Screamin Reels IPA’.
Marco Vegha, one of the co-founders of the company We Believers, explained that, at first, creating this type of ring was just an idea to raise awareness about the problem of plastic in waste but eventually it has become an opportunity to transform the beverage packaging industry and have a positive effect on the environment.
According to the company, only 5% of plastics are effectively recycled, while 40% end up in landfills and about a third contaminate sensitive ecosystems such as the oceans.
For this reason, this eco-friendly product, which features packaging rings made from biodegradable materials from beer production waste, is taking an important step in the fight against plastic pollution.
