The American company Sonoco, specializing in metal and fiber packaging solutions, has been included in the annual “America’s Climate Leaders” list compiled by USA Today and the analytics firm Statista. This recognition highlights companies that have made significant progress in reducing their carbon footprint, based on public sustainability data.

The classification, which gains special relevance after the halt of a federal tool with similar objectives during the Trump administration, seeks to identify companies that demonstrate a real and quantifiable commitment to the environment.

“One of our ongoing focuses is to ensure responsibility and transparency in our sustainability and corporate responsibility strategies,” said Howard Coker, CEO of Sonoco. “Simplifying our portfolio towards more sustainable solutions in metal and fiber packaging reinforces our goal of being key allies for our customers in reducing the environmental impact of their products.”

The process to join this prestigious list consists of two stages: companies can submit an application or be considered if the necessary information is publicly available. From there, their compound annual reduction rate in emissions intensity is calculated.

This recognition comes shortly after Sonoco completed the integration of Eviosys, the European metal packaging manufacturer. With this acquisition, announced in December 2024, Sonoco now has one of the most extensive networks of metal packaging plants in the world, especially in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) regions, consolidating itself as a global player in the sector under the Sonoco Metal Packaging brand.
