The aluminum recycling campaign kicked off for the second consecutive year, inviting hundreds of schools located in the north, center and south of the country. This social initiative also donated a reading center to help improve education in schools that need it most.
The Social Bank of Cans aims to mobilize the Chilean population to promote environmental awareness and recycling. As part of their goal, they donated a Dream Library to the students, which offers furniture and a specially designed selection of books on environmentally related topics. This library comes with specially designed infrastructure and furniture and a selection of books with environmental culture content.
Due to the great success of the recycling project led by the Social Bank of Cans in 2022, this year hundreds of thousands of students will have the opportunity to be part of it. The initiative reached several regions of the country, such as Iquique, Biobío and La Araucanía, in addition to Santiago, to give greater coverage to its work. Through a joint effort between Kyklos, Metalum and Ball, communities such as Iquique, Los Angeles, Nacimiento, San Rosendo, Laja, Negrete, Mulchén and Collipulli can enjoy recycling.
Thanks to the project, the kindergartens and schools that embrace it receive valuable benefits. First, they get awards in infrastructure and equipment to improve the education of their students. On the other hand, they also receive a program dedicated to environmental education that works on the Personal and Social Development Indicators (IDPS), supporting the curricular plans of each establishment and even serving as evidence for those who are seeking certification according to the SNCAE standard.
The Biblioteca de Los Sueños project was born under the auspices of CEC Brazil and the sponsorship of Ball through Brazil’s Culture Promotion Law. And it has already benefited other schools in Latin America, for example in Paraguay. Now, through the Social Bank of Cans, it is coming to Los Pensamientos School, a municipal establishment in the San Bernardo district, with the aim of promoting reading among children and young people and training new generations of Chilean readers, as well as promoting cultural exchange between Latin American countries.
The more than 500 kindergartens and schools that were part of the BSL in 2022 were invited to apply to receive this library based on two key criteria: having a school vulnerability index greater than 75% and a good can recovery score. In addition, the size of the school’s enrollment was considered in order to benefit the greatest number of students, together with the availability of adequate space and the motivation of the educational community. In this way, it sought to benefit schools in need of a reading space, in addition to its commitment to the environmental challenge of the Social Bank of Cans.
