We are pleased to announce that The Sherwin-Williams Company has completed the acquisition of Henkel’s metal packaging coatings business, effective October 1, 2024. This business is engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of coatings for packaging in the food and household products segments under the Apperta, Darex® and Sistiaga brands. The Darex brand will be temporarily licensed to Sherwin-Williams for a select portfolio of coatings for metal packaging to ensure business continuity.

With production facilities in Germany and Mexico, as well as sales and technical support in various parts of the world, the business employs approximately 130 people and is now part of the Sherwin-Williams High Performance Coatings Group, Global Packaging Division.

Sherwin-Williams’ packaging division manufactures and sells a wide range of coatings, with a focus on large can manufacturers and brand owners requiring high-performance solutions for light metal packaging in more than 100 countries. The combination of Sherwin-Williams and Henkel’s metal packaging coatings business offers a broader selection of technologies and solutions for customers, with an enhanced product range, a greater manufacturing presence and deeper sales and technical support.

The history of our two organizations shares many commonalities: product innovation, employee development, sales excellence, and a relentless focus on our customers. Together, we will continue to strengthen these qualities to deliver even greater value to our customers.

“We are excited to welcome the talented employees of Henkel’s metal packaging coatings business to Sherwin-Williams,” said Burt Marchman, President and General Manager of the Global Packaging Coatings Division. “The acquisition of this business enhances our technology, manufacturing and service capabilities, which aligns with our growth strategy and enables us to better serve our customers globally.”
