Satish Pai has been appointed as the new president of the International Aluminum Institute (IAI). The only body representing the global primary aluminum industry also notes that Pai is the CEO of Hindalco Industries, one of the world’s largest integrated aluminum producers.
Precisely, Satish was the driving force behind Hindalco’s transformation from an upstream company to a fully integrated aluminum player with products that contribute to critical industries for the future, such as EV mobility and low-carbon transportation. The purpose of the IAI is to promote the sustainable development of the aluminum industry and increase the demand for aluminum products by raising awareness of their unique properties.
Miles Prosser, IAI Secretary General, notes after the appointment that “Satish is an exceptional leader who is as familiar with on-the-ground issues as he is with geo-economic prospects. He is very capable of turning industry challenges into opportunities: strategic research and development led Hindalco to become the first aluminum company to achieve 100 % utilization of bauxite residues in three of its refineries”.
Prosser confirms the desire to work with him. “I would also like to thank Ben for his dedicated service and leadership. Ben has made a very important contribution not only to the development of this association but to the industry as a whole. On behalf of the membership and staff, I would like to thank him for his service and look forward to his continued contribution to our work,” he adds.
“I am excited to work even closer with my industry colleagues and test the limits of what we can achieve together. Aluminum is clearly the material of choice for the 21st century and being infinitely recyclable, an integral part of the circular economy. I believe this positioning needs to be expanded so that, as an industry, we can contribute to the world’s climate action goals. ESG and the sustainability agenda will be key to our future growth path. I am looking forward to working through the IAI forum to interact with colleagues and take the aluminum story to a new level,” concludes Pai.
