Russian multinational RUSAL, the world’s leading aluminum producer, has just announced the launch of the educational program for Guinean medical students ‘RUSAL Scholarship 2022’.
Specifically, the aforementioned program will help 50 young Guineans obtain higher medical education free of charge at the Krasnoyarsk State Medical University (KrasGMU) and the Faculty of Pharmacy. The implementation of the ‘RUSAL 2022 Scholarships’ program will help graduate highly qualified Guinean general practitioners, surgeons, cardiologists, as well as nursing specialists and laboratory assistants.
Yakov Itskov, head of RUSAL’s Alumina division, notes that “RUSAL has been successfully developing its business in Guinea for more than 20 years. Throughout these years we have consistently subsidized the education and healthcare of Guineans. In 2015, RUSAL built a modern medical center in Guinea to combat Ebola, and in 2020 the Company built another multifunctional hospital to treat infectious diseases and combat the COVID-19 pandemic,” explains Itskov.
“Over the past dozens of years, hundreds of Guinean students were trained in Russia with the help of granted scholarships. The launch of the new educational program ‘RUSAL 2022 Scholarships’ is the best demonstration of our intention to provide systemic support for Guinean education and healthcare, following our principles of social responsibility and sustainability,” says the company’s Alumina division director.
The fellowship program will last from 4 to 9 years (depending on the medical profession). RUSAL will invest more than US$3 million in the training of Guinean doctors. All candidates who pass a qualifying round in Guinea will be able to start their classes in Russia in November 2022.
