Global digital services company and green manufacturing pioneer, Ricoh Company, Ltd has announced the publication of the ‘Ricoh Group 2021 Circular Economy Report’. Ricoh is the first company to issue a report based on guidance issued by the Japanese government last year to promote disclosure and commitment to sustainable finance models.

That report describes the company’s efforts to establish a recycling-oriented society since 1994, through an exploration of Ricoh’s ‘Comet Circle ™’ concept that serves as a case study of how companies that reuse and recycle can generate profits.

It also sets out the company’s future objectives, which are based on its technologies and experience developed over the past three decades. The report is organized in terms of policies and strategies based on governance guidance, as well as risks and opportunities for companies working towards ESG objectives.

Mikako Suzuki, Ricoh’s corporate director in charge of ESG and Risk Management notes that “as ESG disclosure frameworks become more aligned across countries, Ricoh is proud to have this opportunity to provide real-world examples based on our experience in ESG initiatives, offer support with disclosures based on governance guidance and deepen the dialogue with our stakeholders around the world.”

Yoshinori Yamashita, President and CEO of Ricoh Company, Ltd., emphasizes that “Ricoh’s sustainability initiatives are distinctive and fully integrated into our strategy and management systems. Setting and achieving ESG targets is the determining factor for future financial performance and sustainable growth. We are committed to using 100% renewable energy by 2050 and aim to reach 50% by 2030. In fiscal 2020, recycled parts and products accounted for 30 billion yuan of our sales.”

Ricoh has an established reputation for ESG initiatives, where international recognition includes inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index since 2020 and a Gold Class Sustainability Award from S&P Global.
