Rianxeira achieves CO2 neutrality

After positioning itself as the best valued brand in the sector in terms of sustainability by consumers, according to a study by the consultancy firm Hamilton Global Intelligence, the Galician canning company Rianxeira has announced that it has achieved carbon neutrality thanks to the fact that the emissions generated in its production process are offset by the energy obtained by the company itself, by means of its own and participated wind farms.

As mentioned in a press release, the electricity generated in 2020 by these facilities (476 GWh) is equivalent to the electricity consumption of 117,618 households, allowing offsetting the CO2 emissions of its factories.

“In addition, these installations prevented the emission of 433,756 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, which corresponds to the annual consumption of 143,866 new cars, if we assume that they travel 25,000 kilometers per year”.

Since its relaunch on the market in 2019, Rianxeira “has managed to meet the needs of all those who exercise responsible consumption thanks to the success derived from a business strategy based on innovation and respect for the environment”.

This sustainability is reflected 100%, as they point out, in all their tuna and bonito as they come from “certified responsible fishing methods”. ecological ingredients and the use of the right amount of oil or mineral water in all the tins (one of its great innovations) to prevent the surplus from being wasted down the drain, have been part of the commitment to care and respect for the environment.

But packaging also plays an important role in this process. “The packaging used by Rianxeira is another of its innovations, as it not only presents a clean label with the list of ingredients and the names of the products used, but all the cases and packaging of the range are made of 100% recyclable materials”.

Rianxeira is Jealsa’s sustainable canned food range and is part of the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation, whose mission is to carry out actions that guarantee the long-term sustainability of marine resources.

But the canning company also collaborates with a multitude of organisations “that accredit us as a sustainable, healthy and responsible brand.

All with the aim of offering a sustainable and healthy product, of quality, based on transparency, respectful of the environment and aimed at all those who exercise responsible consumption”.
