A rare Chief Oshkosh Crowntainer beer can has made history by selling for $111,150 at Morean Auctions, setting a new world record for this type of vintage metal packaging.

This specimen, known as the white Chief Oshkosh, is currently the only one known to exist, according to the auction house, and is in almost perfect condition. The piece has become a true icon among collectors of vintage beer cans, marking an important milestone in the world of classic beer advertising.

Before the auction, Dan Morean, founder of Morean Auctions, shared the item’s history on Facebook, detailing its provenance since it was produced in the early 1950s. This post, which recounted the can’s fascinating journey, sparked great interest among potential buyers.

The winning bidder, originally from Wisconsin, expressed his enthusiasm for returning the can to its home state. According to his comments, it was precisely that post that inspired him to participate in the auction.

Reflecting on this historic sale, Morean stated:
“Watching the price surpass $100,000 was exciting and a true acknowledgment. These old cans were never intended to be collectibles; they were designed to be discarded, which makes them extremely scarce today. Since the 1970s, collectors have shown great passion for them, and it’s gratifying to see them finally receiving the value they deserve.”

Morean Auctions stands out as the only licensed auction house specializing in beer cans and alcohol advertising, positioning itself as a reference in the world of beer collectibles.
