Ecoembes’ “Reciclos” application, which allows citizens of the Balearic Islands to obtain rewards for recycling cans and plastic bottles in yellow containers, has been implemented in all municipalities of the archipelago. Since its arrival in some areas in 2020, the application has expanded to all 67 municipalities of the Islands, becoming the second Autonomous Community with full implementation.

Through this application, users can accumulate points by recycling containers, which can be exchanged for prizes or donations to charitable projects such as those supported by the Down España Foundation or the Aspace Baleares Foundation. The process is simple: just scan the container’s barcode, deposit it in the yellow container, and take a photo of it, all from the same application. This same procedure applies to door-to-door collection, photographing the garbage bag.

The General Director of Circular Economy, Energy Transition and Climate Change, Diego Viu, highlighted that this initiative not only contributes to the fight against climate change but also raises awareness among citizens about the importance of recycling and sustainability. Additionally, Xavier Balagué, manager of Ecoembes in the Balearic Islands, celebrated that Balearic residents can contribute to charitable causes through recycling, generating a positive social impact.

This initiative adds to other efforts to promote recycling in the region, reinforcing environmental education and citizen participation in the circular economy.
