Re-turn, the Irish company that makes reverse vending machines, says it continues to set records for the fifth month in a row.
More than 90 million beverage containers were returned in June, a significant increase from 78 million in May. As of July 2, 2024, the cumulative number of containers returned through the scheme has exceeded 250 million.
Ireland averaged 3 million containers returned per day in June, demonstrating continued growth in participation and support for the scheme since its launch on February 1.
The day with the highest returns to date was Saturday, June 22, when Irish consumers returned 3.55 million beverage containers. During the last week of June, from June 24 to 30, more than 22 million beverage containers were returned at return points throughout the country.
Commenting on the growth to date, Re-turn CEO Ciaran Foley said June was another strong month for consumer returns in Ireland. It has been very positive to see the numbers increasing thanks to the Irish public, who are now returning on average three million beverage containers every day and added that “now that the transition period has ended, all beverage containers in the scheme must display the Re-turn logo
“It is also very encouraging to see that this Deposit Return program has been associated with lower levels of litter in Ireland in the recently published report by IBAL. Less litter in our streets and countryside has always been a key objective.
