The simple act of recycling cans and bottles can become an engine for social change with a direct impact on the lives of children facing serious illnesses. Thanks to the RECICLOS app, promoted by Ecoembes, packaging recycling is transformed into a solidarity tool that finances projects to improve the well-being of children in treatment.

Lucas, a child with medulloblastoma, was able to fulfill one of his dreams thanks to this initiative. Through donations generated by recycling cans and bottles with RECICLOS, the Pequeño Deseo Foundation gave him the opportunity to be a police officer for a day. This unique experience, which allowed him to temporarily get away from the hospital, restored his joy and strength to continue facing his illness.

RECICLOS works like this: users accumulate points each time they deposit empty cans and bottles in specific containers or machines located in various Spanish locations. These points can be allocated to organizations that support children with diseases, such as the Pequeño Deseo Foundation, the Aladina Foundation, and Juegaterapia. Thanks to this system, hundreds of children’s wishes come true every year, and psycho-oncology programs, assisted therapies, and rehabilitation are financed.

The Communications Director of Ecoembes emphasizes that RECICLOS converts a daily habit into a social commitment that benefits those who need it most, thus expanding the positive impact of recycling. In fact, more than 100 wishes have already been fulfilled thanks to contributions derived from the recycling of cans and packaging.

Stories like Lucas’s demonstrate that recycling not only protects the environment, but can also bring a smile back to a child’s face, offer hope, and contribute to their emotional well-being during treatment. It all starts with a gesture as simple as placing a can in the container
