The Puebla City Council, through the Municipal Sports Institute (IMDP), launched the campaign “Canchas x Latas”, a unique project in Mexico that aims to collect three million cans to rehabilitate two soccer fields in the capital.
The initiative, which will run for four months, combines sports and environmental benefits, promoting a recycling culture among citizens, businesses, and local authorities, as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
Mayor Pepe Chedraui Budib emphasized that the program is a priority for the city, as it will improve sports facilities and provide adequate recreational areas for young people. For his part, Ricardo Zayas, director of the IMDP, highlighted that Puebla will be the first municipality in the country to implement a project of this nature.
The plan includes containers in sports facilities and strategic points of the city, the use of reused polypropylene bags, and “recycling marathon” events in the 17 auxiliary councils. Companies and organizations such as Hotel Marriott, CAPU, UPAEP, Universidad Anáhuac, Parque Puebla, and Acuario Michin, among others, are participating as project allies.
With this initiative, the IMDP reaffirms its commitment to public policies that promote sport, recycling, and social well-being in Puebla.
