PPG, along with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Can Manufacturers Institute, Recycling is Like Magic! and Mon-Valley Recycling Center, celebrated World Recycling Day by supporting the recycling efforts of the Environmental Charter School (ECS) in Pittsburgh. As part of the national “2 Million Cans Recycling Contest,” PPG is helping ECS students collect and recycle aluminum cans. So far, ECS students have collected nearly 42,000 cans.
The event kicked off with a pep rally at ECS, where more than 100 second graders participated in educational activities about aluminum can making and recycling. In addition, there were raffles and special appearances, including Penguins mascot Iceburgh and ECS mascot Hero the Hawk.
PPG expressed its enthusiasm for supporting the students’ dedication to recycling, and highlighted the importance of partnerships like this one to encourage environmental action and promote the infinite recyclability of aluminum. The Penguins also supported the event and donated the aluminum cans from the March 18 game to help ECS reach its recycling goal.
The “2 Million Cans” contest promotes the collection of aluminum cans in elementary schools, encouraging education in sustainability and recycling. The contest continues through April 30, and the top-ranked schools will be recognized in May.
