Poland’s national prosecutor’s office is investigating an alleged plot by the Russian military intelligence service (GRU) to introduce cans of food poisoned with explosives into the country. According to Polish media such as Gazeta Wyborcza and TVP Info, the operation would also involve Lithuania and Germany.
A Ukrainian citizen identified as Władysław D., linked to the GRU, allegedly transported the cans from a cemetery in Lithuania to Poland, where he left them near Łódź. In addition to the cans, components for drones were found, suggesting that the devices could have been used as aerial explosive ordnance. The young man was arrested by the Internal Security Agency (ABW).
The coordinator of the Polish special services, Tomasz Siemoniak, confirmed that the GRU was planning sabotage operations in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany using these devices. A military expert quoted by Gazeta Wyborcza warned that the amount of explosives involved could have caused serious damage and fatalities.
