Plug and Play, a global innovation platform and prevalent early-stage investor, announced the expansion of its partnership with Novelis, a leading provider of sustainable aluminum solutions and a world leader in aluminum rolling and recycling. Novelis, which is a supplier of lightweight, low-carbon aluminum for commercial transport and electric vehicles, will join Plug and Play Mobility’s platforms in the UK and Detroit, in addition to an existing program in Stuttgart.
With a vast network consisting of 90 leading brands focused on the movement industry, Plug and Play is aimed at exploring the best technology solutions for autonomous transportation, smart infrastructure and last mile logistics. Partner organizations work as part of an ecosystem, together with startups, academics and investors to explore the best technologies and innovations that can be commercially deployed for autonomous transportation, intelligent infrastructure, last mile logistics and other areas that will define the future of the automotive industry.
In the United Kingdom, Novelis joined the list of mobility partners as one more in the group. This will also include Jaguar Land Rover as founding partners, then Advanced Propulsion Centre and Zenzic. In addition, the consortium will count Detroit among its members, for which Stellantis and BorgWarner are the representatives.
Novelis will be supported by a partnership that seeks to ensure that the company researches and tests different tools aimed at carbon dioxide reduction, recycling, mobility, industrial development and electric movements.
Derek Prichett, an important member of Novelis, shared his enthusiasm for the recent partnership with Plug and Play. “Through this partnership, Novelis’ corporate venturing arm will provide startups with the manufacturing expertise they need to accelerate growth and shape the future of the mobility industry,” the executive remarked.
