Grupo Empresarial Palco decided to withdraw from its establishments a product known as Conchita brand tomato sauce, which was sold at a value of 33 dollars or freely convertible currency (MLC).
Rouslyn Navia Jordán, a Cuban citizen, expressed her deep anger because tomato sauce is being sold at exorbitant prices despite the fact that it is a product made in Pinar del Río, with Cuban raw material. In April, a woman identified as Lisandra Martin posted on her Facebook page an image showing the excessive price of cans of salsa. This caused the publication to receive a lot of repercussion and even Palco began to respond, recognizing their mistake in the price of the cans and hastened to withdraw them from the market.
After detecting a possible fault with one of its products, the Group’s managers proceeded to immediately remove it from sale. Palco stated that the costs of the sale coincided with the acquisition price of the property.
“We are currently working to find alternatives for access to products at reasonable prices that do not alter the value of the final sale to the public”,
the company pointed out. The same domestic product was marketed in private online stores, such as Supermarket, at US$16. Cubans have suffered from the lack of tomato sauce in their kitchens for years. This shortage has not been resolved to date, with high prices still dragging on since 2020.
