Pakistan Aluminium Beverage Cans Limited (PABC), a manufacturer of aluminium soft drink cans in Pakistan and Afghanistan, applied for listing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in early May. The company has an installed capacity to produce 600 million aluminum beverage cans in a year. As noted by Pakistani media outlet, The Express Tribune, PABC used 74% of its capacity in 2020, “as it exported about 35% of its production to Afghanistan, according to the company’s prospectus available on PSX”
It noted that UK-based asset management firm Ashmore, which has a 51% stake in PABC, will sell almost half of its stake (i.e. 26% of the paid-up capital) to institutional, retail and individual investors in June 2021. PABC is currently the only aluminum beverage can manufacturer in Pakistan with no direct competition in the industry, in a soft drinks market that is expected to grow at a five-year compound annual growth rate of 6.7% according to Euromonitor International over the period 2020-2025.
