Operation Matsu, the scheme uncovered in the Rioja Baja: 120,000 canned tuna canisters affected by fraud
Operation Matsu has come to an end thanks to the intervention of the Guardia Civil, who managed to arrest four people related to a food fraud. This scam involves about 120,000 cans of canned tuna and 45,000 liters of oil.
A total of four people, two men and two women, have been arrested for the illegal sale of canned tuna through a company located in La Rioja. The operation was carried out in collaboration with the Italian Arma de Carabinieri and Europol due to several crimes related to this irregular commercial activity.
As part of the investigation, around 120,000 cans of tuna and 45,000 liters of oil have been confiscated. Most of the seized cans were to be distributed in small stores and large supermarkets in Spain and Italy, especially during the Christmas season, as mentioned in one of the press releases issued by the Guardia Civil.
