Okanagan College has completed a CAD 1.2 million renovation of its British Columbia Beverage Technology Access Centre (BC BTAC) on the Penticton campus, incorporating a new canning line. This improvement will allow companies in the sector to experiment and develop products in small batches, from conception to pilot production.

The project received joint funding from the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation, with equivalent contributions of CAD 638,226 each. According to the center’s director, Karin Grosstessner-Hain, the new line will expand packaging testing capabilities and help solve production challenges, while offering students hands-on experience in applied research.

The Minister of Advanced Education and Future Skills, Jessie Sunner, highlighted that this renovation will foster innovation and promote sustainable solutions in a sector that is key to the provincial economy.
