One of the most important events in the world that has to do with Rock is the Rock in Rio festival held for the first time in 1985. In its last edition held in September, 11 tons of aluminum beverage cans were consumed and will be recycled by Novelis. The scrap has already undergone separation and weighing. It will then leave the company’s collection center in São Gonçalo (RJ) for the plant in Pindamonhangaba (SP).

According to Novelis South America’s Strategy and Sustainability Manager, Beatriz Sobreira, each kilo of recycled can saves the extraction of five kilos of bauxite. This company seeks to minimize the impact on the planet. In addition, the difficulty of generating aluminum door-to-door makes this metal infinitely recyclable.

The initiative is a partnership between the National Association of Recyclers and Recyclable Materials Recyclers (Ancat), the startup Reutiliza Já and 80 recyclers from Recicla Mais, Cooper Ecológica and Cooperativa Popular Amigos do Ambiente (Coopama).

Specifically, with this recycling campaign 350 people benefited directly from the action and more than 100 tons will return to the industry after being recycled.
