Novelis was born from a business model based on circular economy and aluminum recycling. Novelis has just received certification from the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) Global Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) under the performance standard. This seal comes to recognize this company’s commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles and criteria in the aluminum value chain.
The audit conducted in July 2021 confirmed compliance with the 109 criteria evaluated by the entity, which provides a systemic look at issues such as responsible and sustainable production, relationship with suppliers, biodiversity and relationship with the community.
“From the beginning we understood that the company’s success would be intrinsically linked to our environmental, social and governance commitments” says Francisco Pires, president of Novelis South America, who adds that “this recognition confirms that we are on the right track and looking to the future”.
The company is now preparing for the next stage of ASI certification to the Chain of Custody standard, with audits scheduled for next year.
