Novelis achieves record recycling figures for the company. It has just announced that it has reached 74 billion aluminum cans reused worldwide. The company’s circular model stands out in Brazil, where the company is responsible for 64% of the recycled cans.
In the case of Brazil, a country that is among the world leaders in packaging circularity, the company was responsible for the record recovery of 21 billion cans in 2021, 64% of the total 33 billion units recycled in the country.
“For Novelis, recycling is a commitment not only to business, but also to partnership with society and the future of the planet. The circular economy reduces the impacts of our activities on the environment and, in the aluminum sector in particular, avoids the extraction of bauxite from nature, reduces electricity consumption and CO 2 emissions and contributes to the income of more than 800 thousand people,” highlights Alfredo Veiga, vice president of Novelis Supply in South America.
In addition, last year the company made investments of 750 million reais, which increased its recycling capacity to 490 thousand tons per year. To contribute to the market, Novelis announced the implementation of a Customer Solutions Center (CSC), which should be completed by the end of 2022. Here, companies can count on support in can design, carbon footprint reduction projects, tool development, technical and laboratory evaluation and analysis, among other services.
The company will also continue to increase the use of recycled content in its products. Currently, 79.2% of Novelis’ beverage can sheets are already made from reused material.
