The Nachterstedt Aluminum Recycling Center (NARC) celebrates its 10th anniversary, marking a decade of innovation and sustainability, with Novelis consolidating its position as a recycling leader in the aluminum market.
In 2011, Novelis’ decision to focus the company’s business model on recycling led to major investments to increase recycling capacity and capabilities, including the construction of one of the world’s largest aluminum recycling centers, which has transformed the aluminum industry.
With a total investment of over €300 million, NARC was built as a state-of-the-art facility capable of recycling up to 400,000 tons of aluminum per year. With its central location within Europe, NARC provides high recycled content ingots to Novelis Europe’s rolling mills for further processing into innovative low-carbon aluminum solutions for many key players in the automotive, beverage packaging and specialty industries.
“At NARC, we can cast aluminum ingots for car body sides made from 86% scrap,” said Emilio Braghi, executive vice president of Novelis and president of Novelis Europe. “Aluminum ingots for beverage can bodies with close to 100% recycled content show our way to decarbonize aluminum for consumer products and our strong ambition towards a fully circular economy.”
