Seoul recently hosted the 22nd World Knowledge Forum, which was attended by the multinational company Novelis. The economic conference was attended by Novelis President and CEO Steve Fisher and Novelis Asia Executive Vice President and President Sachin Satpute, who spoke about Novelis’ role in this event entitled ‘Terra Incognita: Redesigning Global Architecture’, which was also attended by numerous experts from around the world presenting on the changes following COVID-19.
Given the current international situation, Steve attended the forum virtually and spoke during the ‘Race to Net Zero’ session. During his presentation, the CEO of Novelis highlighted the sustainability goals recently announced by the North American company as well as its commitment to supplying low carbon aluminium solutions.
Among the main topics discussed by Fisher, he also addressed Novelis’ closed-loop recycling system and shared that Novelis aims to lead the industry’s decarbonization efforts by increasing aluminum scrap recycling.
Afterwards, Sachin participated in another panel discussion where he discussed Novelis Asia’s best practices in ESG. Sachin shared that the aluminum recycling rate grew from 0kt/year in 2012 to 320kt/year in 2021 by establishing and operating the Yeongju recycling plant. He also reported that Novelis Asia is leading the way in low-carbon production by using 59 percent recycled material in the production of solutions.
