The multinational Novelis has new investment plans. Its latest venture is the construction of a new aluminum recycling center in southwestern Kentucky, USA. The company has just started the construction of its state-of-the-art aluminum recycling center with an investment of more than US$365 million.

The new plant will have a capacity of 240,000 metric tons per year of aluminum foil ingots, which will significantly reduce the multinational’s carbon emissions by more than one million metric tons per year. The new facility will generate 140 direct jobs, plus an additional 40 jobs at the adjacent aluminum finishing plant.

For his part, Tom Boney, executive vice president and president of Novelis North America, emphasizes that this is one more link in the long chain of cooperation between his firm and the local economy. “This innovation marks an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainability and recycling, and also supports the carbon reduction goals of our automotive customers. The Commonwealth of Kentucky continues to be a great partner for Novelis,” adds the executive.

The new aluminum recycling center will be equipped with the latest equipment and techniques for aluminum recycling, including shredding and sorting technology. The plant is expected to come online in two years’ time, in 2024, and this installation confirms Novelis’ ambitious goal of reducing energy intensity by 2026 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
