The Board of Directors of ArcelorMittal, a global steel and mining producer, has recently announced the appointment of the former President of the company in Europe. Aditya Mittal will become CEO of the Company.

Meanwhile, the founder of the group in 1976 and current chairman and CEO, Lakshmi N. Mittal, becomes executive chairman. In this role, he will continue to chair the Board of Directors and work with the CEO and management team.

On the occasion of his appointment, Lakshmi Mittal, stated that “despite the obvious challenges of 2020, ArcelorMittal starts 2021 in a position of relative strength.

Having achieved some key strategic objectives, this seems the right time to make the transition to Executive Chairman and the Board has unanimously agreed that Aditya Mittal is the natural and appropriate choice to be CEO of the Company.” For his part, Aditya Mittal, highlighted the importance of Lakshmi Mittal for being the one who erected ArcelorMittal “from a new-build rolling mill in Indonesia into the world’s leading steel company. It is an extraordinary achievement.

ArcelorMittal is the world’s leading steel and mining producer, present in 60 countries and with industrial facilities in 18 countries. It has led the consolidation of the international steel sector, and is considered today as the only truly global steel producer. It was founded in 2006 through the merger between Mittal Steel and Arcelor. Its headquarters are located in Luxembourg City.
