The Aluminum Packaging Recycling Organization (Alupro) has announced the appointment of Martin Hyde as its new sustainability and public affairs manager. Hyde, who joined the company from producer compliance scheme Comply Direct, has significant experience in sustainability, environmental legislation and policy.
Following his new appointment, Hyde will work closely with CEO Tom Giddings to lead Alupro’s government involvement program. He will also be responsible for providing technical advice on a variety of sustainability challenges, as well as consulting with members and partners throughout the aluminum value chain on new recycling initiatives.
Hyde is excited to join the Alupro team at such an important time for the aluminum container recycling industry. “With responses to the government’s EPR consultation published in March, and feedback on the recent deposit return scheme (DRS) and consistency in household and business recycling collection consultations expected in the coming months, 2022 will be a year of change and progress,” he notes.
“The circular economy plays a propulsive role in tomorrow’s packaging materials and, with enviable properties and infinite recyclability, aluminum will be at the forefront. In my new role, I look forward to promoting aluminum’s role in the UK’s transition to a circular economy, as well as providing consultancy to members across the UK,” adds the new head of sustainability and public affairs.
Tom Giddings, managing director of Alupro, highlights, “At Alupro, our aim is to meet the industry’s obligation to meet and exceed aluminum packaging recycling targets. Working in partnership with local authorities, the waste management industry and the wider metal packaging sector, we aim to develop and stimulate the UK’s collection infrastructure.”
