Novelis announced a new agreement with Ball Corporation to supply aluminum foil for its soft drink cans. This option joins other commitments made previously, thus guaranteeing all beverage can production at its newly established plant in Bay Minette, Alabama.

Steve Fisher, CEO of Novelis, said. “Securing contracts for beverage can production capacity at Bay Minette two years ahead of the plant’s scheduled completion demonstrates our customers’ confidence in our ability to plan, build and operate our new Alabama plant. This contract reinforces our customers’ demand for sustainable aluminum sheet and our ability to supply the product.”

“Novelis is a critical partner in helping Ball achieve our carbon footprint reduction goals and achieve full circularity of aluminum beverage containers,” Ron Lewis, Ball Corporation’s senior vice president and director of global beverage packaging operations, said.

In addition, Novelis and Ball have entered into a closed-loop recycling agreement to help preserve the environment. çThrough closed-loop recycling programs, Novelis directly recovers manufacturing scrap generated during the can manufacturing process and recycles it into new beverage packaging sheet, which in turn is converted into new beverage cans. Novelis also recycles more than 82 billion used beverage cans a year into new aluminum for beverage containers. The partnership between Novelis and Ball underscores both companies’ focus on sustainability and innovation.

“Our long-term collaboration has brought innovative products to the market and set a new standard for sustainability. We are delighted to continue this partnership and meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly beverage packaging.”said Greg Schlicht, senior vice president of global beverage packaging at Novelis.
