MPMA Pleased with the Advancement of DRS Implementation in Wales

The Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association of the UK (MPMA) has welcomed the news that the Welsh Government has decided to bring forward the implementation schedule for its Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).

Galley, CEO of the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association of the UK (MPMA), stated that the aluminum can plays a fundamental role in advancing more sustainable packaging by offering an efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly solution, also because it is the most widely used packaging.

The Welsh Government’s decision to accelerate the implementation of the DRS, in line with the rest of the country, is a positive sign of its commitment to achieving ambitious waste management and recycling targets through a modern and effective infrastructure.

To achieve higher recycling rates and reduce carbon emissions through a successful DRS, it is essential that the systems implemented by the various UK administrations are compatible with each other, thus allowing full advantage to be taken of the circularity and permanence of aluminum.
